Laterality | scully's Blog

It's been one year and nine months now I started to "re-laterize" myself. For the story, I was born lefty, forced to be a righty. It took me about 15 years to begin to write better with my right-hand. I don't write super, but it's legible. I realized with the years that I did lots of things, especially spontaneous (not learnt) things lefty. When I was 26 (I'm 28 now), lots of memories came back to me, and some about me bein g a lefty before the age of 6. I've had lots of problems link to that wronged laterality. First my handwriting sure. Then other motor/practical problems, lack of strenght for some activities, lack of balance (when walking, at times), confusion of right and left. I use my left hand very naturally for many things now, except writing, though I'm re-learning. I think it's ll take some years more to have some, not all, but a great part of sidedness (that was mostly lefty, but for the hand, and foot at times). My balance problems seem to have disappeared, which is more comfortable in daily life. My right eye see better, my vision is more balanced (though still neatly left-eyed). Confusion with my right and left is till there, but less important, my reflex are better already. Then I had lots of emotional and social problems. I'm not naturally a social butterfly, but I was socially phobic, and also on the phone. It was extremely difficult for me to find a job for instance. Now I have no problem talking to people, on the phone or in flesh. I'm still an introvert. Still don't like crowds. But at least I feel better with myself in a group. I'm not re-beginning lefty, I've always been. I just leave myself be the way I am naturally. It's a part of my identity. I've tried my new lefty fountain pen, with grip, it's easier than with a pen. But more dificult than with a pensil. It was long, and it's just the beginning, and after much discouragement, it finally ends up having effects. Good effects.
